What do music applicants need to prepare for the audition?
MUSIC SOLO
Music students are asked to submit ONE 1 minute solo performance in video format. The solo should showcase your technical ability. Students must be in the video, not just the sound. Ensure that we can see you playing your instrument.

Students may audition on any wind, string or percussion instrument including voice. *if choosing to submit a vocal video, applicant must ALSO submit an additional video showing instrumental ability.

The selected audition piece can range from a simple melody to a complicated number.

Key elements in a musical performance are:

tempo, correct rhythms, expression, dynamic, and tone when applicable​

Music potential is the key factor to a positive decision by the selection team.

PERSONAL DIGITAL SCRAPBOOK
Applicants will submit a digital scrapbook of about 10-15 items. This digital scrapbook will be in the form of a slideshow or photos submitted through the application portal.

These interests can be from anywhere, not just the arts!

Consider: awards, certificates, report cards, pictures, activities outside of school like athletics, family events and community groups, etc.

Your Audition Day

Check-in
8:30 - 9:00 AM
Enter the school through theatre entrance 2 and check in with the arts faculty in front of the cafeteria. Applicants will be escorted to the appropriate master class at this time. Please arrive on time.
The Master Class
9:00 - 11:00Â AM
​The first part of your day begins with a 2 hour music master class led by members of the music faculty. All applicants participate in this group portion of the audition.

Master Class Tips and Tricks:

This is an amazing opportunity for you to learn from new people. Embrace the challenge and say YES to new concepts.
We are paying attention to not only your skill set but also your attitude, character, and work ethic.
If you mess up, its ok! We don't expect anyone to be an expert. Participants are expected to attempt each task to the best of their ability.
Lunch
11:00 - 11:40 AM
Applicant is to provide their own lunch during this time.
Interviews
11:40 AM - 4:00 PM
Each applicant will be scheduled for a 10 minute interview where they will have the opportunity to present their personal scrapbook and prepared music solo.
You may be nervous but we will be helpful, kind, and guide you along the way.

Your Interview Day
Week of January 17th, 2022
* A reminder that all students participating in interview day MUST have submitted a completed application package through the application portal by the application deadline. Only applicants who have completed all required elements will be contacted for an interview.*
Each applicant will be scheduled for a 10 minute virtual interview where they will have the opportunity to answer our standard interview questions and speak about their experience. They will also have the opportunity to speak about the digital audition video that they submitted. Virtual invites will be sent prior to the meeting time with a link to a zoom meeting where you will be greeted by members of our interview team.
